As part of the "Face to Face with Works" event, the Albert-André Museum presents the curious museum of Léon Alègre.
The idea for a library-museum first took root around 1845 in the mind of Léon Alègre, a scholar from Bagnols who was also an artist, historian, and archaeologist. Having assembled a collection of books, paintings, objets d'art, archaeological artifacts, and taxidermied animals, he opened the museum in 1859. It had an encyclopedic focus and, in some respects, still resembled a "cabinet of curiosities." More significant renovations followed. Using period photographs, let's bring these rooms and their unique atmosphere back to life.
